What is Leveled Literacy Intervention?
Introduction
At Mount Horeb Area Schools we understand that your child comes to us with unique interests, experiences, and learning styles. Our goal is to support and motivate him or her in the best possible way. We encourage you to partner with us to give your child the most successful learning experience possible.
Some children may need additional instruction to help them become more successful readers. A program called the Leveled Literacy Intervention program (LLI) can do that. Please read the following to learn more about how this program can help your child meet grade-level expectations.
LLI: Leveled Literacy Intervention Lesson
Your child has been selected to be in an LLI group for 30 (Gr. K-2) or 30-45 (Gr. 3-5) minutes a day so that he/she will benefit from the program's intensive supplemental instruction. Your child will still be getting regular instruction in the classroom.
LLI lessons focus on the needs of individuals. To help your child reach his/her full potential, he/she will learn in groups of four or fewer students. Daily K-2 lessons include reading a new book, rereading familiar books, word work/phonics, and writing; Gr. 3-5 lessons include revisiting previous reading (comprehension, vocabulary, or fluency), phonics/word study, reading a new book, and rereading and assessment. For all grades reading records and data are recorded to track your child's progress.
Why LLI?
The Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention program is a highly acclaimed, researched-based reading program that is used in classrooms across the nation. Regular classroom instruction is not always enough for some students. LLI lessons are designed to provide direct, yet fun, supplemental instruction for those who need it. The primary objective of this program is to increase your child's reading level with daily, systematic instruction. Once students meet grade level expectations, they will be exited from the LLI program.
