District Mission Statement


The Mount Horeb Area School District, in partnership with the community, is dedicated to nurturing, educating, and challenging all students; preparing and empowering them to be productive, responsible, and self-fulfilled members of society.

The Mount Horeb Area Board of Education Statement of Belonging

The Mount Horeb Area School District commits to establishing and sustaining a safe, supportive, and secure school community where all are welcome and feel a sense of belonging. We commit to eliminating systemic barriers and biases while fostering a culture where everyone feels respected and part of our school community.

As a district, academic and social-emotional growth for all students are key components of our Board of Education Strategic Plan. Our Mission Statement purposefully articulates all means all. Every student, regardless of background, will have the opportunity to thrive. Each student deserves an educational environment in which they can achieve their full potential without encountering systemic roadblocks. 

The District commits to these core principles to increase belonging for all:

  1. hear student voices (past and present) so that the District can take actions to improve and maintain programming and effective supports;
  2. condemn all forms of racism, hate speech, bigotry, and all forms of discrimination; 
  3. review curriculum to ensure that lessons contain accurate historical and contextual teaching on social and racial injustice; 
  4. plan and implement professional development for all staff that promotes our community standards;
  5. partner with families and the community to build a shared culture of belonging; and,
  6. review data annually to monitor student belonging and examine structures to ensure that current support systems effectively increase students’ sense of belonging.

Together, these actions reflect our unwavering commitment to provide an inclusive and responsive learning environment for every student. We recognize that cultivating belonging is an ongoing journey, and we will continue to listen, learn, and lead accordingly.
